Rescue Pledge

We’re going to let you into a little secret – life isn’t always a walk in the park. That’s why we’ve signed up to the Rescue Pledge.

Did you know that in 2012, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home cared for nearly 9,000 animals? That’s a staggering figure we just can’t get our heads around. Surely everyone knows, that owning a dog or a cat is a hugely rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Right now, this very second, Puppy Farming is taking place all around the world; the mass commercial production of puppies, purely for profit. As cute as these pups may be, there’s always cause for concern. Often these pups are bred in appalling conditions, at a huge detriment to their future health; quite frankly we’d rather not think about it.

So where would a responsible owner go to find their pup of choice, surely not from a pet store right? How about the internet? Maybe even the back of the newspaper? We don’t want to scare you, but chances are, if you purchased your pooch from one of these places, there’s a huge possibility they may have come from a puppy farm.

We’re not saying that all puppy farmed animals find their way into places like Battersea. We’re just asking for your help, and there’s no better way than to take the PLEDGE.

Our friends across the pond are trying to spread the joys of shelter adoption. Together P.L.A.Y, one of our favorite makers of cool eco-friendly dog beds, and award-winning marketing agency Nebo, have come up with the Rescue Pledge. By taking the PLEDGE, you’ll be taking a stand against commercial pet distribution. To stop puppy farming we need to stop the demand.

The pledge is fairly straight forward. By signing up you pledge that you will:

  • Urge friends and family to adopt from shelters
  • Avoid pet store puppies and unlicensed breeders
  • Become educated about the minimum standards of care
  • Report animal abuse or neglect
  • Give back: donate money, supplies, or time to a needy shelter

Will YOU take the Pledge?
